This is to say, ESL students must memorize over six times as many words as a student of the GNT, to be able to get a handle on 72% of what they read.

I recommend you stop your memorization efforts here. There are 5,393 different words used in the NT.

Rather than plowing through the remaining 4,932 words (462 of them are used only once; a lot of memorization work for not much benefit!), I suggest that you purchase a copy of the:

UBS Greek New Testament Reader's Edition

It contains a running dictionary at the bottom of each page, defining all the words on that page that appear LESS than 30 times in the GNT. At the back of the volume is a dictionary of all the words used MORE than 30 times in the GNT.

So overall, this volume contains a dictionary of every word used in the GNT...but makes it very easy indeed to find - at the bottom of each page - a defintion for those obscure words that you have never (and probably will never) memorize.

While the SBLGNT is becoming more and more common in software products, when it comes to published hard copies of the GNT, you cannot beat the UBS (United Bible Societies) versions. You can get a leather-bound edition of this volume for only $50: a bargain!

Beware of used copies of this on Amazon. For some reason, the used copies cost more than brand new ones.
